The first month of 2023 is nearly over, which is the perfect time to assess how to do things better.
In this blog we will assess how you can live more sustainably over the next 12 months without spending ridiculous money, or sacrificing things you love.
At Future X Energy we are committed to “creating a cleaner future for our future generations.”
Here are 5 habit changes, that will reduce your energy bill AND your carbon footprint in 2023:
1. Seal leaks in your home
If you’re looking for a simple bang for buck solution, draught proofing your home can cut costs significantly by reducing the need for constantly running heating/cooling appliances. This will not only reduce your costs significantly but it will also improve your home comfort. Purchase some low-cost draught proofing and get to work on:
- Windows
- Doors
- Skylights
- Electrical Outlets
2. Start eating your leftovers
Food waste is an enormous issue world-wide, whilst some in poverty are going hungry. Purchasing produce, fruit and other perishables in bulk can lead to extra food waste, production and transportation excess energy costs and unnecessary carbon emissions. Meal planning or buying specific amounts will cut down your food waste. Another tip is resisting the temptation to buy food when you may not need it, make eating leftovers a new habit.
3. If you can – leave the car at home
Gas-powered cars are one of the greatest carbon-emitters available. Using your car might be convenient, but if it is practical for you then why not try:
- Walking
- Cycling
- Carpooling
- Public Transport
- Electric Bike/Scooter
4. Take Less Flights
The world has opened again as access to air travel ramps up in 2023. Airplanes release enormous emissions that could be avoided by exploring Australia via car or train instead. If this is not an option try flying for business only when necessary… or consider buying carbon offsets.
5. Use the washing machine less
Australia is hot! We tend to wash our clothes too often due to this, which takes a toll on the energy use (and your bill).
Try to be selective with the clothes that are regularly washed, (when you can) use cold water as much as possible – and hang your clothes up, stop using the drying machine if you want to cut costs.
Other than the above 5 habit changes, our advice is to tell your friends and family too, inspire them or ask them to help you keep accountable. Lastly, teach your kids what it means to grow up sustainably from an early age, they are our future.
Way cool! Some extremely valid points! I appreciate you writing this write-up and also the rest of the website is really good.
This is a very good tip particularly to those fresh to the blogosphere. Simple but very precise info… Appreciate your sharing this one. A must read article!
